GONZALES, Texas – March 4, 2013 – Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) will be offering a free legal clinic to help low-income residents of Gonzales County get divorced at no cost. Interested residents must apply for the clinic by April 1st.
The clinic will help Gonzales County residents, many of whom cannot afford the high cost of a private attorney, go through the divorce process with free legal help provided by experienced TRLA attorneys.
“Many low-income residents don’t have the financial resources to end one chapter of their lives and move on to the next,” said TRLA attorney Christina Trejo. “So TRLA is here to help.”
In order to be eligible for the clinic, residents must be low-income. Additionally, both people in the marriage should agree to the divorce.
Eligible participants will meet with TRLA attorneys on April 19th to prepare legal documents and begin the divorce process. Over a three-month process, participants will have the guidance of experienced legal aid attorneys to help with collecting necessary information and meeting filing deadlines. Divorces will be granted in mid-July.
Added Trejo, “This can be a scary process for many people. But our attorneys will be there at every step.”
Residents interested in applying for the clinic should contact Texas RioGrande Legal Aid at 361-576-1274. Residents must apply by April 1st.
