WESLACO, Texas – August 31, 2011 – Three former employees of Weslaco restaurant Buffalo Wings & Rings have filed a lawsuit against the company and its manager for failing to pay their earned wages while they were employed from 2009 to 2010.
Represented by Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA), Abigail Cavazos, Sandra Marin, and Berenice Cantu allege that Buffalo Wings & Rings failed to pay them for all of the time they worked or pay them overtime wages when they worked more than forty hours in a week.
According to TRLA attorney Kathryn Youker, “These women worked long and hard hours only to never be paid for them. Employers cannot refuse to pay employees the wages they have earned for any reason.”
The women are suing under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The FLSA establishes a national minimum wage and guarantees time-and-a-half wages for overtime worked in certain jobs.
Added Youker, “Workers need to stand up for their legal rights when they are taken advantage of like this. If they’re facing this type of situation, TRLA can help.”
