State Sen. José Rodríguez is predicting layoffs at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid and other legal service programs around the state following the demise of one of his top legislative agenda items.
“We had approximately $32.5 million for legal aid. And now it is totally gone,” the freshman senator from El Paso told the Guardian on Sunday.
Rodríguez said the legal aid funding was needed to assist veterans’ access their VA benefits, seniors who have been wrongly denied Medicare prescriptions or other benefits, families facing foreclosures or who have housing and shelter issues, and individuals requiring legal documents for medical treatment and related services.
