Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan L. Hecht visited the Rio Grande Valley this week to bestow the Texas Access to Justice Legislative Hero Award to state Sen. Juan Hinojosa.
The award is given by the Texas Access to Justice Commission and Foundation. Hecht oversees the rules of administration, practice, and procedures of Texas courts and is also the Supreme Court’s liaison for access to justice issues. The event was held at the Edinburg offices of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA).
In his remarks, Hecht explained why access to justice was so important to democracy. He said that when he was a trial judge he used to tell jurors that they were privileged to serve not only in the finest justice system in the world but the finest justice system in the history of the world.
