San Antonio Business Journal – Legal aid groups get cut of multi-million dollar settlement

Half a dozen nonprofit legal organizations that serve Texans with disabilities have been given $2.6 million in funds resulting from a lawsuit litigated by a San Antonio attorney.

The late Charles Shaddox of San Antonio as well as Hamp Skelton of Austin and two Florida attorneys, Stephen Senn and Robert Fegers, litigated a class action lawsuit against the state of Texas that resulted in a $9 million judgment with the proceeds going to nonprofit organizations serving the needs of Texans with disabilities. The lawsuit claimed the state violated Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act by charging Texans with disabilities for the standardized blue placards used for parking.
