LegalFront – TRLA Educates Court Clerks on Affidavits on Indigency

When working with Cameron County District Clerk Aurora de la Garza and other county officials to develop model forms for the county to use to contest Texas Rules of Civil Procedure 145 Affidavits on Indigency, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) attorneys Pablo Almaguer and Mary Christine Reed realized that it would be beneficial for Clerks across the state to receive training pertaining to Affidavits of Indigency.

The County and District Clerks Legal Education Program proved to be an excellent forum to provide training to Clerk staff from around the state on issues relating to Affidavits of Indigency. During this training, Reed and Almaguer discussed a litigant’s filing requirements when submitting an Affidavit of Inability to Pay Court Costs and a Clerk’s filing duties.
