Texas Lawyer – The 25 Greatest: David G. Hall

This article is part of a series by Texas Lawyer to honor the greatest 25 Texas Lawyers of the last quarter century.

David G. Hall, executive director of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, has had an important impact on the law in Texas — and on the lives of many low-income Texans who cannot afford lawyers — by devoting his career to legal aid.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed what I’ve been doing . . . seeing just a constant inflow of young lawyers coming through the program, that really keep the juices flowing,” he says.

Hall, a 1969 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, has been executive director of Weslaco-based TRLA (formerly Texas Rural Legal Aid) for more than 25 years. TRLA provides free civil and criminal legal services to indigent residents of Southwest Texas. It’s the nation’s third-largest legal aid organization.
