Del Rio News Herald – TRLA director defends program

No formal action was taken by county commissioners court following a lengthy discussion recently of the county’s regional public defenders office.

A contract between the county and Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid to operate the office – the first of its kind in the state – has expired.

Val Verde County Commissioners Court during its Jan. 11 meeting once again heard from several women representing TRLA and a grassroots citizens group called The Border Organization, who asked that the county extend its contract with TRLA for a regional public defenders office to provide legal defense for the indigent.
