Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) will join Houston-based Children at Risk for a press conference this Wednesday, August 5th in Brownsville regarding the latest developments in fighting the war against human trafficking.

HOUSTON (July 31, 2009) – Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world and yields an estimated nine billion dollars in profit each year. Research shows that 14,500 to 17,500 foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States every year and 50 percent of those victims are children. The Valley area is a gateway for these international trafficking victims to enter the U.S.
Nationally renowned advocate, Dr. Bob Sanborn, political officials, educators, and community advocates will discuss the growing human trafficking problem, and recent legislation and its affect in the Valley.
