Express News – Lessons from Ranch Raid

One year ago today a raid on the Yearning for Zion ranch in Eldorado began what would become the largest child custody battle in the history of the United States.

As a result, members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) were thrown into the media spotlight and their families were torn apart. One year later, with most of these families reunited and few charges filed, we have to ask — for what?

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services tried to scare us with numbers. But the facts today tell a remarkably different story; reports of broken bones, underage marriages, and abuse were either wrong or grossly exaggerated.
