The latest Disaster Recovery Law Report features a story on TRLA’s lawsuit against FEMA on behalf of victims of Hurricane Dolly:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has asked a federal judge to throw out a bid by 14 Texas residents to force the agency to reconsider awarding housing aid for thousands of poor families hit hard by Hurricane Dolly last July.
The plaintiffs, joined by the Hispanic civil rights group La Union del Pueblo Entero Inc., say FEMA rejected nearly half the residents’ applications for home repair assistance.
The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, alleges that FEMA also refuses to publish or discuss the standards it uses when deciding who should receive disaster relief funds.
