San Antonio Express News – Free legal aid gives helping hand to cash-strapped clients

St. Mary’s Center for Legal and Social Justice was transformed Tuesday night into a one-stop legal center to help low-income residents settle routine legal matters including some that had dragged on for years in a few hours.

“It’s good for us, it’s good for the clients and it’s good for the law,” said Mayor Phil Hardberger, a retired 4th Court of Appeals chief justice.

Hardberger, state Sen. Carlos Uresti and County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson joined more than a dozen other attorneys to help clients through the Community Justice Project, a program that hosts monthly legal clinics to help with uncontested family law matters.
