EL PASO, Texas – Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA), the leading provider of legal aid in Texas, and Creative Kids, Inc. will be hosting a fundraiser this Thursday to benefit people facing foreclosure, eviction, or emergency relocation in El Paso.

The fundraiser, Art With a Cause, is the result of a photography training workshop held by the organizations for El Paso children of migrant workers.  After working with renowned photographer Alan Pogue, the children took photographs that have been incorporated into calendars and enlarged as special prints.

“These children have used photography to capture the world they know,” said TRLA attorney Veronica Carbajal. “Now the rest of us will be able to view that world year-round.”

Art With a Cause will be a benefit dinner held on Thursday, September 4 starting at 6pm at the OLO Gallery (504 San Francisco Avenue).  The dinner will feature live music and autographed copies of Alan Pogue’s book Witness for Justice will be available.  Large prints of the children’s photographs will be available for auction and the 2009 calendars will be available for purchase.

Added Carbajal, “Not only will these children see their hard work bring joy to others, but they will also know that their work is going to benefit the less fortunate in their own community.”

Tickets to the event are $30 and tables can be purchased for $240.  Proceeds from the event will go to Creative Kids and to TRLA’s El Paso Emergency Housing Fund which provides cash assistance to clients facing foreclosure, eviction, or emergency relocation.

Established in 1970, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc. (TRLA) is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and disadvantaged clients in a 68-county service area. TRLA’s mission is to promote the dignity, self-sufficiency, safety and stability of low-income Texas residents by providing high-quality legal assistance and related educational services.
