EL PASO, Texas – Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA), the largest provider of legal aid in Texas, will receive a $26,000 donation from private attorney Scott Vogelmeier at a reception to be held Thursday, June 5, at TRLA’s El Paso office.

The donation stems from Vogelmeier’s victory in a class action lawsuit against the company Unifund.  Vogelmeier is an attorney in El Paso with a practice in consumer law.  His victory in the case is shared with Dan Edelman of Edelman, Combs, Latturner & Goodwin.

“TRLA is grateful for Scott’s support, both through his legal efforts and through his financial generosity,” said TRLA attorney and El Paso branch manager Carmen Rodriguez.  “The help that we will be able to provide thanks to his donation is immeasurable.”

Vogelmeier will present TRLA with the donation at an awards reception on June 5th at 5:30pm at TRLA’s El Paso branch office (1331 Texas Avenue).  Vogelmeier will also be presented with a Champions of Justice Award in recognition of his contributions to TRLA’s work.  The event will be open to the media.

Added Rodriguez, “TRLA could not continue to serve low-income Texans without the support of private attorneys and donors like Scott.  We owe all of those individuals a great deal of thanks for helping us help others seek justice in the legal system.”

Established in 1970, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc. (TRLA) is a nonprofit organization that provides free civil legal services to low-income and disadvantaged clients in a 68-county service area. TRLA’s mission is to promote the dignity, self-sufficiency, safety, and stability of low-income Texas residents by providing high-quality legal assistance and related educational services.
