AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry awarded $6.2 million in grants to 80 programs across the state that are dedicated to combating violent crimes against women and offering services to victims of these crimes. The grants are awarded under the federal S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and are distributed by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division (CJD).
“Deterring violence against women is only part of our mission; we must also take every stride we can in offering hope and support to victims of abuse,” Perry said. “Through additional education and assistance, we will reinforce the message that despicable acts of violence against women will not be tolerated.”
