Texas Bar Journal – Pro Bono Prom

An official proclamation by Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell declared Sept. 22 Pro Bono Prom Day. It was a gesture appreciated by the Austin Bar Association and the Austin Young Lawyers Association who, through their newly created Leadership Academy, hosted the first Pro Bono Prom benefitting Texas RioGrande Legal Aid.

LegalFront – San Antonio Bar Association’s Community Justice Program Celebrates 10th Anniversary

This month, the San Antonio Bar Association’s Community Justice Program will celebrate its 10th Anniversary. It’s been a busy decade for the CJP as we have continued to grow and meet the legal needs of low-income residents and veterans in our community. This past year has been particularly busy, highlighted by the program’s recognition by the American Bar Association as the recipient of the 2012 Harrison Tweed Award. This prestigious award is given to a bar association that has made extraordinary efforts to improve the availability of legal services to poor persons in their community.

UT Law Magazine – Pro Bono Program announces 2013 Pro Bono in January trip

In anticipation of National Pro Bono Week (October 21–27, 2012), the Pro Bono Program is pleased to announce that the application for the 2013 Pro Bono in January trip will be available on Monday, October 22, 2012. Pro Bono in January is an annual winter break trip that gives law students the opportunity to engage in meaningful pro bono work in low-income communities. This year, the Pro Bono Program will take thirty students as well as several faculty members to the Texas Rio Grande Valley during the second week of January.

Tex Parte Blog – San Antonio Bar Association wins national award for Community Justice Program

San Antonio Bar Association president Gary W. Hutton (pictured) says he hopes winning a national pro bono award will help the association to attract grant funding for its legal-aid program.

The American Bar Association is giving the 2012 Harrison Tweed Award to the San Antonio Bar for its Community Justice Program (CJP), which offers civil legal clinics for indigent Texans. Hutton and CJP leaders will accept the award on Aug. 3 at the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
